Salamanca
Salamanca is situated in the automous region of Castilla y León, next to the Tormes river.
It has the oldest active university of Spain, created in 1218 by Alfonso IX.
In 1988 the city was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO, because it has an important architectonic heritage, with its both cathedrals (the Old Cathedral and the New Cathedral), the Shells House, the Main Square, the St. Stephen Convent and the ‘Escuelas Mayores’.
